1. Christmas at Dunham Massey
Christmas at Dunham Massey is a ticketed light trail through the garden of the National Trust house near Altrincham, from 20 November 2026 to 2 January 2027. The trail celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026 with new lights in the gardens and new projections on the historic house, and Father Christmas appears along the way. It is about one mile (1.6 km) long, and the organisers suggest allowing one to two hours.
Entry is by staggered start times, and the trail closes one and a half hours after the last entry time of the day; the car park is cleared by 22:00 at the latest. Quieter sessions start at 16:00 and 16:15 on 27 November and on 1, 7 and 30 December, the same evenings on which only assistance dogs are allowed.
The nearest tram stop is Altrincham Interchange, about 3 miles (5 km) from the trail by taxi. Parking on site has to be booked with the ticket, and the walk from the car parks to the trail entrance takes about 10 minutes. Dunham Massey lies 14.9 km south-west of Manchester city centre.

2. Northern Lights Manchester at Heaton Park
Northern Lights Manchester is a light trail of just over a mile through Heaton Park, in north Manchester, from 19 November to 31 December 2026. After a first season in 2025 that drew more than 100,000 visitors, it returns with a new theme that rewinds to the toys of past Christmases: Lava Lamp Lane, Slinkys, Scalextric, Nutcrackers and Candy Canes are among the installations announced for 2026.
Other installations include giant mirrored kaleidoscope arches, neon lines that wind overhead like a Spirograph and a North Pole parcel post full of post boxes, workshops and an overpacked postal van. The trail loops from the Christmas Village by the Boating Lake, with festive food, drinks and vintage fairground rides, through woodland and along the Cherry Blossom pathways. The organisers suggest allowing at least an hour, if not two.
On Wednesday 2 and Wednesday 9 December the trail runs with 70% fewer visitors and lower sound. The lighting includes strobes and lasers that may affect people with photosensitivity.
The tram stops at Heaton Park, and bus 135 to Bury leaves Piccadilly Gardens (stand C) about every 15 minutes and takes about half an hour. Parking must be booked in advance. Heaton Park lies 5.7 km north of the city centre.

3. Yuletide at Tatton Park
Yuletide is a ticketed light trail in the gardens of Tatton Park, near Knutsford in Cheshire, on selected dates from 14 November to 23 December 2026: 14, 21, 22, 28 and 29 November and 5, 6, 12, 13 and 19 to 23 December. Its Glittering Trail, where folklore comes to life, has a new layout in 2026, with puppets, glowing installations and live performances. It is produced by the arts company Wild Rumpus.
The route is about 1.4 km long. Entry is by time slot between 15:00 and 19:00, and visitors can stay at their own pace until the trail closes at 21:00; the organisers expect a visit to take around 90 minutes.
A shuttle bus runs from Knutsford Bus Station to Tatton Park on selected dates. Tatton Park lies 19.0 km south-west of Manchester city centre.

Twilight Tales at Freight Island. This ticketed light trail behind Piccadilly station ran from 13 November to 23 December 2025, from Thursday to Sunday; Freight Island's 2026 Christmas programme does not mention it yet.
The Christmas Trail at the Trafford Centre. This ticketed light trail in the grounds of the shopping centre ran from 8 November 2024 to 2 January 2025, and it is not in the Trafford Centre's Christmas programme for 2026.
