The City of Munich runs the Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz (Münchner Christkindlmarkt), which spreads from the square into the pedestrian streets. Stalls sell tree decorations, hand-painted glass pictures, pottery, wool slippers and straw stars, and the Kripperlmarkt by St Peter's sells crib figures and nativity accessories. Documented as the Nikolaidult in 1642, the market has stood on Marienplatz since 1972; crib markets have been held in Munich since 1757. It runs from 20 November to 24 December 2026.

2. Medieval Christmas Market
The company Medieval Monacum OHG runs the Medieval Christmas Market, held on Wittelsbacherplatz since 2005. Merchants in historical costume sell their goods and artisans demonstrate old crafts at their stalls. A cultural programme fills the Advent weekends, and a ceremony opens the market on 20 November 2026. It runs until 23 December and is closed on 22 November.
