Budapest Christmas Markets, market by market
1. Advent Bazilika Christmas Market
The Advent Bazilika Christmas Market brings together Hungarian ceramists, leather craftsmen, jewellers and designers, with new exhibitors next to returning ones. A light painting covers the Basilica façade every afternoon, a large Christmas tree stands under a net of lights, and a nativity scene and an Advent wreath face St Stephen's Basilica, with Advent candle lighting in the programme. No entry ticket is needed. It opens daily from Friday 13 November 2026 to Friday 1 January 2027.
2. Vörösmarty Classic Xmas
Vörösmarty Classic Xmas sets Hungarian handicrafts beside the stalls of its food exhibitors on Vörösmarty Square. A children's train runs around the square, a large Christmas tree stands on the square, and charity events and music fill out the programme. No entry ticket is needed. It is open every day from Friday 13 November to Thursday 31 December 2026; the craft stalls stay until Monday 28 December.

3. Budapest Christmas Market at Városháza Park
Budapest Vásárcsarnokai organised this fair, the Budapesti Karácsonyi Vásár, for the Municipality of Budapest in Városháza Park and on Deák tér, where it ran between Friday 14 November 2025 and Saturday 10 January 2026. It stays on the map, with its dates for 2026 still to come.

4. Advent in Óbuda
The Óbuda-Békásmegyer district municipality is behind Advent in Óbuda (Advent Óbudán), which was held in District III, across Fő tér and Szentlélek tér, from Friday 28 November to Tuesday 23 December 2025. This Óbuda fair has its dates for 2026 still to come.

5. Advent in Hegyvidék
Advent in Hegyvidék (Advent a Hegyvidéken), a fair of the Hegyvidék municipality in District XII, was held on Városháza tér, outside the Hegyvidék town hall, from Friday 28 November to Tuesday 23 December 2025. The District XII fair has its dates for 2026 still to come.

What to eat and drink at the Budapest Christmas Markets
Budapest Christmas Market food differs between markets 1 and 2, the two on the map with 2026 dates.
At the Advent Bazilika Christmas Market, the stalls on Szent István tér sell kürtőskalács (chimney cake), mézeskalács (gingerbread) and handmade chocolates, next to other Hungarian specialities.
Vörösmarty Classic Xmas pairs its handicrafts with the cooking of its caterers, whose large kitchens serve hot dishes such as töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage), paprikás csirke (chicken paprikash) and sült kolbász (grilled sausage), which comes with bread and mustard. Lepény (flatbread with cheese and sour cream) is another savoury choice, and mézeskalács turns up on Vörösmarty tér as well.
The savoury dishes are on Vörösmarty tér, the chimney cakes and chocolates in front of St Stephen's Basilica, and gingerbread at both squares.

Advent Bazilika keeps shorter hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and 26 December, and its light painting returns to the Basilica every afternoon; the Advent Bazilika programme shows the light painting along with the tree, the nativity scene, the Advent wreath and the candle lighting. Vörösmarty Classic Xmas keeps its craft stalls and children's train until Monday 28 December, and the square then stays open for New Year's Eve on Thursday 31 December.
The Advent Bazilika Christmas Market carries on into the New Year, with shorter hours on New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027: of the markets with 2026 dates, it alone runs into January. For markets 3, 4 and 5, which took place in 2025, the dates for 2026 are still to come.
