When do the Christmas Markets in Vienna end?
The Advent Market at the Hirschstetten Flower Gardens closes on Sunday 20 December 2026. Seven markets end on Wednesday 23 December: Old Viennese Christmas Market Freyung, Christmas Market at Am Hof, Art Advent at Karlsplatz, Christmas Market at Spittelberg, Christmas Village on the University of Vienna Campus, Advent at Francis and Christmas Market in Türkenschanzpark.
Four markets close on Saturday 26 December: the Viennese Christmas Market at Rathausplatz, the Christmas Village at Maria-Theresien-Platz, the Christmas Market on Stephansplatz and Christmas Magic at Schwarzenbergplatz. After 26 December only the Ice Dream rink stays at Rathausplatz, until 6 January 2027; it is closed on 31 December. The K&K Christmas Market at Belvedere Palace closes on Thursday 31 December, and the Christmas Market at Schönbrunn Palace and the Winter Market on Riesenradplatz on Wednesday 6 January 2027. Holiday hours vary by market: the Vienna Christmas Market opening times list them.
When do the Vienna Christmas Markets usually start each year?
Vienna's seasonal Christmas Markets open from mid-November every year; in 2026 two of them open earlier, on 6 November. The Christmas Market at Schönbrunn Palace opened on 6 November in 2025 as well: its 2025/26 season ran from 6 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, the same calendar dates as the 2026/27 season.
Several markets return to the same square each winter. The Viennese Christmas Market at Rathausplatz has been held in front of City Hall since 1975, the Christmas Market on Stephansplatz since 2013 and Art Advent at Karlsplatz since December 1994.
The Advent Market at the Transport Museum Remise ran on Fridays to Sundays from 28 November to 14 December 2025. Its 2026 dates have not been announced yet.
