What is the start date for the Christmas Markets in Budapest?

On the map, the 2026 season opens on Friday 13 November 2026: Advent Bazilika Christmas Market at Szent István tér and Vörösmarty Classic Xmas at Vörösmarty tér both start that day. Vörösmarty Classic Xmas closes on New Year's Eve, and Advent Bazilika Christmas Market on Friday 1 January 2027. Markets 3, 4 and 5 are district and city fairs, each with 2026 dates not announced yet.

The two dated markets stand in District V, Advent Bazilika Christmas Market in front of St Stephen's Basilica. Both trade daily from the opening Friday through to their closing day, and neither has a day off announced in between.

The remaining three held fairs in 2025. Budapest Christmas Market at Városháza Park took place in Városháza Park and on Deák tér, District V, that year, Advent in Óbuda in District III, on Fő tér and Szentlélek tér, and Advent in Hegyvidék in District XII, on Városháza tér.

The stalls, food and attractions of each market, one by one, are set out under Christmas Markets across Budapest.

The Christmas Market Budapest calendar for 2026, in map order:

At Vörösmarty Classic Xmas, the craft stalls stay until Mon 28 Dec; the square itself stays open to New Year's Eve.

No closure day is announced at either dated market. The Advent Bazilika season page gives its run from 13 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, together with the weekly hours and the hours over Christmas and New Year.

No market on the map with 2026 dates so far closes before Christmas. At Vörösmarty Classic Xmas, the craft stalls and the children's train leave on Monday 28 December 2026, and from 29 to 31 December the square stays open for New Year's Eve. The market closes on Thursday 31 December, open until 03:00 on 1 January. The Vörösmarty Classic Xmas season dates give its run from 13 November 2026 to New Year's Eve and the day the craft stalls leave.

Advent Bazilika Christmas Market stays open beyond New Year's Eve and closes on Friday 1 January 2027, the sole January closing on the map with 2026 dates so far. Budapest Christmas Market at Városháza Park, Advent in Óbuda and Advent in Hegyvidék have 2026 dates not announced yet, so their closing days are unknown for now.

Opening and closing days in past seasons, by market:

Advent Bazilika Christmas Market and Vörösmarty Classic Xmas opened together on a Friday in mid-November in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and they do so again in 2026.
