The Salzburg Christmas Markets on the map, one by one
1. Salzburg Christkindlmarkt
The Verein Salzburger Christkindlmarkt (Salzburg Christmas Market association) organises the Christkindlmarkt. Exhibitors from the city and its region offer toys, Christmas decorations and jewellery, and handmade wooden, metal and textile pieces beneath 'starry sky' lights. Choirs sing before the cathedral and nativity scenes stand in a winter forest on Residenzplatz. No entry ticket is needed. It trades from Thursday 19 November 2026 until New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027.

2. Sternadvent
Sternadvent Markt Salzburg fills the Sternbräu courtyard with a village of chalets selling art, crafts, winter products and Christmas tree decorations, and children gather at its living nativity scene. No entry ticket is needed. Trading starts on Thursday 19 November 2026; once Christmas is over, the chalets carry on as a winter market (Wintermarkt) up to Wednesday 6 January 2027.

3. Hellbrunner Adventzauber
The Gassner family's catering business runs this palace market of farmhouse products, alpine specialities and crafts, with a rotating hut for small makers. The facade's 24 windows form a giant Advent calendar. Entry ticket needed until 19:00 (Tuesday to Sunday and Monday 21 December), sold only at the cash desks on site; no ticket after 19:00 or for children under 6. Season: Thursday 19 November until Thursday 24 December 2026, Mondays off except the 21st.

4. Christmas Market on Mirabellplatz
The Verein Weihnachtsmarkt Mirabell (Mirabell Christmas Market association) stocks its stalls with knitwear, sheep's wool goods, ceramics, incense, Christmas scents and handmade tree decorations, many of them from makers in the Salzburg region, along with Taizé pottery ceramics from France. Advent brass music plays in front of Mirabell Palace, and St Nicholas and the Krampus drop by. No entry ticket is needed. Stalls trade from Thursday 19 November until Thursday 31 December 2026.

5. Advent Market at Hohensalzburg Fortress
Salzburger Burgen & Schlösser hosts this market of local crafts, gift ideas and Salzburg delicacies, with a view over the Old Town. Wind players perform and children can bake biscuits and do crafts in a supervised programme. No entry ticket on the footpath up to the courtyard; the Festungsbahn funicular costs extra. Market days: Fridays to Sundays, starting Friday 27 November and ending Sunday 20 December 2026, plus Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December.

6. Charity Advent Market on the Alter Markt
Lions Club Salzburg Mirabell organises this charity market, and volunteer organisations staff every one of its huts and stands. Whatever visitors spend there goes to good causes. No entry ticket is needed. The huts open on Friday 20 November 2026 and stay until Tuesday 22 December 2026, so this market wraps up two days before Christmas Eve.

7. Winterwunderwald
The St. Peter Stiftskulinarium runs one mulled wine stand in its decorated arcade courtyard: home-made Glühwein (mulled wine), punch and sweet and savoury bites, to brass ensemble music. No entry ticket is needed. Open from Wednesday 11 November 2026 through to Wednesday 6 January 2027.

8. Advent Market at the Salzachsee
Stalls on the lakeshore sell regional products, organic food and handicrafts. Children get pony rides at weekends (not in bad weather) and a craft hour on Saturdays, the Christkind comes on Advent Sundays, brass music plays at weekends and Krampus runs are on the programme. No entry ticket is needed. The market opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only, between Friday 20 November and Sunday 20 December 2026.

Salzburg Christmas Market food, market by market
Hot drinks come first among the food at the Salzburg Christmas Markets: the Christkindlmarkt pours Glühwein, Glühmost (mulled cider), fruit punch and Feuerzangenbowle (flaming rum punch), and the Christmas Market on Mirabellplatz has a children's punch.
On Domplatz and Residenzplatz the savoury stalls serve Schnitzel rolls, Leberkäs (baked meat loaf), Käsekrainer (sausage with cheese inside) and Bosna (a bun with spiced sausage), and some also sell Jagatee (rum-laced hunters' tea) and raclette sandwiches. The sweet side brings Lebkuchen (gingerbread), baked apples, roasted almonds, Maroni (roasted chestnuts) and Mozartkugeln (chocolate and marzipan sweets).
Bauernkrapfen (farmhouse doughnuts) and Pofesen (filled, fried bread slices) turn up at both the Christkindlmarkt and Mirabellplatz, and the Mirabellplatz huts add Kaspressknödel (fried cheese dumplings), Fleischkrapfen (meat pasties) and hot bacon bread.
The Hellbrunner Adventzauber cooks game and vegetarian dishes, Kasnockn (cheese dumplings) and Baumkuchen (spit cake). Up at the fortress, Flammkuchen (thin oven-baked flatbread) comes out of the wood oven of the historic bakery.
Which Salzburg Christmas Markets are open in November, and which in December?
Christmas Markets in Salzburg in November get going at the Winterwunderwald, open from Wednesday 11 November 2026. The Christkindlmarkt, the Sternadvent, the Hellbrunner Adventzauber and the Christmas Market on Mirabellplatz follow on Thursday 19 November. A day later, on Friday 20 November, the Charity Advent Market on the Alter Markt and the Advent Market at the Salzachsee open, and the Advent Market at Hohensalzburg Fortress starts its market days on Friday 27 November.
Among the Christmas Markets in Salzburg in December, four on the map close before Christmas Day: the fortress market and the Salzachsee market end on Sunday 20 December, the charity market on Tuesday 22 December and the Hellbrunner Adventzauber on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December.
Four carry on past Christmas. From Sunday 27 December the Christkindlmarkt continues as a Silvestermarkt (New Year's Eve market) on its squares until Friday 1 January 2027, Mirabellplatz trades until Thursday 31 December, and the Sternadvent, by then a winter market, and the Winterwunderwald last into January, up to Wednesday 6 January 2027.
